For those experiencing financial hardship during this emergency, we've compiled a few resources for you:

Unemployment Insurance:

  • Hourly/Salaried Individuals in Minnesota: The Minnesota Governor issued an executive order that removed the one week waiting period for unemployment claims. Applicants may now also be eligible if they're quarantined and unable to work, unable to go to work due to an outbreak at the workplace, or lost childcare where the employer can't accommodate them with paid time off or leave. More information about Minnesota's response:
  • Hourly/Salaried Individuals in Wisconsin: The Wisconsin Governor has asked the state legislature to waive the one week waiting period for unemployment benefits. An executive order removes the requirement to search for work while laid off or working with reduced hours. More information about Wisconsin's response:
  • Self employed / 1099 contractors: Neither Minnesota or Wisconsin currently has a solution for UI benefits for workers in this category. Our trade association is actively lobbying to get benefits for self-employed individuals and 1099 contractors, but nothing has been enacted there yet. There are several loan options available due to the emergency declarations and executive orders
    • Minnesota DEED: On 3/23/2020 the governor directed DEED to create an emergency loan program that is 50% forgivable and has a 0% interest rate. More information:
    • SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program: This is available directly through SBA – not local banks. Low interest loans are available up to $2MM with a current interest rate of 3.75%. More information here:
Mortgage Payments (Primary Residence, Second Homes, and Investment Properties):
Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA have all released new payment deferment options for loans owned by them. They've instructed banks and servicers not to charge penalties or make derogatory credit reports. While you may mail your payment to a bank or mortgage company, it's likely owned by one of these three entities. It's important that individuals seeking this help, contact their bank or servicer to set up the deferral before missing a payment. Here are the sites with details.
Auto Loan Payments:
Many auto lenders are offering to defer payments up to six months without penalties or adverse credit reporting. Call your auto lender or visit their website for more information.

Home/Auto/Renters Insurance:
Almost every large insurance carrier is currently offering payment deferments without penalties right now. Contact your agent or carrier directly if needed.
Stay healthy out there!

RE/MAX Professionals is a proud sponsor of the Holiday Train Cottage Grove Stop!

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train returns to the communities of Cottage Grove, Newport and St. Paul Park THIS FRIDAY, December 9, 2016.  The brightly lit train will arrive at approximately 5:45 p.m. with a trainload of fun and entertainment.  It will stop on West Point Douglas Road, just south of the 80th St. Bridge / Belden Crossing (across from the Youth Service Bureau).

All cash and personal care items collected at the "Cottage Grove Stop" go directly to the local Friends in Need Food Shelf; serving the residents of Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island, Newport and St. Paul Park. The goal is to raise $90,000 this year.

The RE/MAX Professionals Lodge is a great place to stop and warm up while shopping for Holiday Train Merchandise. Holiday Train sweatshirts, knit caps, fleece blankets, NEW this year, fleece mittens, and more will be available!  Free hot beverages and cookies will be available, and Mountain Mike's mini-donuts, cheese curds, corn dogs, and popcorn will be available for purchase!  Glo-sticks will be given to the first 2,300 children attending this event.

Visit with Santa and enjoy some holiday music before the train arrives. Upon the train's arrival to Cottage Grove, Kelly Prescott and Colin James will perform their musical hits. Prescott visited Cottage Grove back in 2013, when she shared the stage with Sheryl Crow and Take Six.

Cash is the preferred donation but the need is also great for personal care items such as bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels or diapers. There will be collection areas on site. If you are unable to attend the event and would still like to donate to the Friends in Need Food Shelf, please send checks payable to the Friends in Need Food Shelf, P.O. Box 6, Cottage Grove, MN 55016, and please write "Holiday Train", on the memo line.

Congratulations to our experienced REALTORS who continue to maintain our #1 market share position in Cottage Grove!

Cottage Grove Market Share

The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Werner Electric Supply hosted a forum for local candidates to interact with business leaders and share details about themselves and their values.

Watch here:

This May, we celebrate 11 years serving the Cottage Grove Community and WOW do we have a lot to celebrate.

Our REALTORS, staff and ownership love this community and are so proud of the recent growth the entire community has experienced. It's an exciting time in the Cottage Grove Area.

Having grown up and gone to school here, to being active Chamber Members and Volunteers, to involvement in our big festivals: Strawberry Fest, Candaian Pacific Holiday Train and Friends In Need Foodshelf's Oktoberfest, our office LOVES our community and we know it well.

Personally, each of us have our own passions to serve in our neighborhoods and other organizations as well, from churches and sports groups, to boy scouts and neighborhood boards.

In 2016, as we celebrate 11 years as a member of the business community, we decided to make a major investment in our business here, to better serve our associates and our community. We held the ribbon cutting for our re-grand opening earlier this week and welcomed the business community to join us.

Stop by and check out our new lobby and conference area when you have a chance. And if you have any real estate needs, go with those who know! We'd love to serve you.

Solar Power Garden in Cottage Grove

District 833 in Minnesota encompasses Cottage Grove, Newport, Woodbury, Grey Cloud Island, Afton, St. Paul, and Denmark. Recently, the University of Minnesota's Center for Sustainable Building Research recognized District 833 as a sustainability leader!

In fact, the city of Cottage Grove can expect a solar power garden to be built soon. The 'garden' will take up about 36 acres in an 80 acre site with trees surrounding it so as to block the view for home owners near by. Additionally, for safety purposes, there will be a fence surrounding the panels as well. Home owners and local businesses can purchase a share of energy through Xcel Energy who will buy electricity from the solar garden. (Click here for the full story written by the SWC Bulletin)

But, what are the benefits of solar power?

1. You can save THOUSANDS of dollars on your electricity bill

2. It is environmentally friendly

3. Having a solar garden in your community actually increases home value

4. Tax incentives

5. Access to energy from the solar garden is EASY to purchase and utilize

Why should you care?

People are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious. Therefore, you could potentially sell your home more quickly and at a higher price if there is a community solar garden. Additionally, using solar power helps the environment by reducing dependence on harmful and quickly diminishing fossil fuel. It also reduces the impact on your wallet. According to SunShare (another solar company), homeowners could save up to $500 on their electricity bill! Lastly, there are usually tax incentives that benefit home owners who purchase energy from the garden. Check with your local or state government for further information on tax incentives.
